21 July | New Delhi, India – IRF has commenced the third batch of the International Registry for Road Safety Auditors, a 10-day internationally certified training programme being held from 20 to 31 July 2026 at the Central Road Research Institute – Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), with the support of TotalEnergies Foundation.

The first Road Safety Audit (RSA) Training Course was hosted at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), followed by a second edition in Mumbai. Together, the two programmes trained 44 road safety professionals, with 35 participants successfully admitted to the International Road Safety Auditors Registry as Observer Road Safety Auditors, strengthening India’s growing network of internationally recognised road safety practitioners.

The third edition is led by internationally renowned road safety expert and IRF Lead Trainer Eur Ing Miguel-Angel Serrano Santos, whose decades of global experience in road safety engineering and auditing have contributed to improving road safety practices worldwide.

Designed to build world-class expertise, the programme combines international best practices with practical applications in road safety audits, Safe System principles, crash investigation, vulnerable road user safety, work zone safety, and road infrastructure risk assessment.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. C. Ravi Sekhar, Director of CSIR-CRRI, in the presence of Dr. K. Ravinder, Senior Scientist at CSIR-CRRI, and Ms. Aruna Shankari, Chief Operating Officer of the IRF India Chapter.

During the opening session, the dignitaries underscored the importance of capacity building, knowledge sharing and international collaboration in strengthening India’s road safety ecosystem. They highlighted the need to develop highly qualified professionals capable of applying internationally recognised methodologies to support the country’s Vision Zero ambitions and deliver safer road infrastructure.

The programme has brought together participants from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), CSIR-CRRI, highway operators, consultants, concessionaires, infrastructure companies and other road safety professionals from across India. It provides a valuable platform for technical learning, professional networking and the exchange of international best practices among practitioners working across the road sector.

Through practical exercises, real-world case studies, field inspections and technical discussions, participants will gain the knowledge and skills required to conduct road safety audits in line with internationally accepted standards. A strong focus on the Safe System approach ensures that participants develop practical competencies that can be applied directly to improving road infrastructure safety.
