Jon Obenberger is Principal of JTO Transportation Consulting, LLC, where he helps transportation agencies develop innovative solutions to improve roadway safety, mobility and operational performance. With more than 30 years of experience in transportation planning, traffic operations and program management, he is widely recognised for his leadership in advancing traffic management systems and freeway operations.

Prior to founding JTO Transportation Consulting, Dr. Obenberger served as Senior Transportation Research Engineer at the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), where he led the Next Generation of Traffic Management Systems Program and numerous national initiatives focused on improving transportation operations. He also serves as a lecturer with the University of Virginia Center for Transportation Studies, delivering professional education courses for transportation practitioners.

Dr. Obenberger is Chair of the IRF’s Traffic Management Committee and has led major international collaborations and symposiums focused on the future of traffic management. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Wisconsin.
