Professional Training
The International Road Federation (IRF) is a leading global provider of capacity building and training services aimed at readying road professionals for the transition to safer, smarter, and more sustainable road networks and equipping them with the skills required to deploy emerging practices in road design, asset management and digitalisation.
IRF Online Courses

Managing Speed in the Safe System
This practical course equips engineers, road authorities, police agencies and transport professionals with the tools needed to diagnose speed-related risk, select evidence-based interventions and evaluate their effectiveness. Drawing on international case studies from both high-income and low- and middle-income countries, participants will learn how to develop speed management programmes that are technically robust, politically feasible and financially realistic.

Next Generation Road Asset Management
Combining core asset management principles with emerging practices in predictive maintenance, risk-based interventions and digital tools, this course provides participants with practical frameworks for making better investment and maintenance decisions across diverse road networks. Drawing on international case studies and operational experience from both mature and developing road systems, the course will examine how agencies can define service levels, assess asset condition, prioritise competing needs, and integrate safety, resilience and operational performance considerations into long-term infrastructure stewardship.
IRF In-Person Training
Safe Urban Street Design for Vulnerable Road Users
All road users deserve a safe road. “Vulnerable” Road Users such as pedestrians, motorcyclists, public transport users, non-motorised vehicles and bicyclists at greater risk than vehicle occupants and usually bear the greatest burden of injury during road crashes. In some countries Vulnerable Road Users represent more than 70% of the fatalities. This percentage is about thirty percent (30%) in Qatar. Too often these fatalities and serious injuries are due to high speeds of traffic and the lack of separation between these fast moving motorised vehicles and vulnerable users.
This training is applicable for Road Agency Executives, Highway and Street Engineers, Traffic Management Professionals, Traffic Safety Professionals, Pedestrian Safety Advocates, Bicycle Safety Advocates, Motorcycle Safety Advocates, Law Enforcement, and Research & Academia Personnel.
Advanced Road Safety Audits
This course is designed to provide a more advanced level of knowledge, skills and experience in Road Safety, to enable students to pursue a career in Road Safety Auditing. The course will provide more in-depth knowledge, and build on the foundations of the previous course titled “Introduction to Road Safety Audits”. The topics covered on this course will focus on legal and economic aspects of Road Safety, improving safety in the Road Design, safety measures for pedestrian and cyclist, safety in tunnels and consistency of the Road Designs

Climate Resilient Road Design and Maintenance
Build and manage climate-resilient, low-carbon road assets that perform under growing environmental pressures. Assess climate vulnerabilities across networks, prioritise adaptation measures and manage risks from extreme weather and geotechnical instability. Quantify carbon emissions across the asset lifecycle and integrate resilience and mitigation into design, maintenance and rehabilitation strategies.

Road Safety for Managers
Take charge of your network’s safety performance by strengthening the decisions that shape risk on your roads. Diagnose network-wide and site-specific hazards, prioritise proven safety treatments and build robust, defensible investment cases. Set clear requirements for design and maintenance, protect vulnerable users and embed safety into operations and asset management. Monitor performance, drive accountability and deliver measurable reductions in fatal and serious injuries.

We’re seeking to broaden our pool of trainers and invite expressions of interest from experienced professionals across the road value chain. Join and help address the most pressing infrastructure challenges today.

IRF has developed a structured, practitioner-focused pathway that equips road agencies with the skills to plan, design, operate and manage road networks that are more inclusive, safer, greener and more efficient.
Road Safety Auditors Registry
The IRF Road Safety Auditors Registry addresses a critical gap in global road safety efforts by training and certifying auditors based on clear training and experience criteria and strengthens local capacity.
