Circle of Excellence Webinar: Ensuring Safe, Inclusive and People-Centred Mobility for All
25 February | The International Road Federation’s Circle of Excellence webinar series continued last week with a session on Ensuring Safe, Inclusive and People-Centred Mobility for All, highlighting practical initiatives that improve safety and access while responding to real mobility needs.
The webinar brought together transport and mobility experts to explore how mobility systems can better serve people and communities. Speakers emphasised that roads are not neutral infrastructure; they shape access to education, healthcare, markets and employment.
Yet major gaps persist worldwide, particularly in rural areas and among vulnerable road users. The session demonstrated how aligning regulation, infrastructure design, enforcement and technology around human behaviour can significantly reduce road trauma and expand opportunity.
Connecting Communities Through Rural Mobility
Rudy Alejandro Herrera Mármol of Guatemala’s Secretaría Privada de la Presidencia presented the Routes to Development programme, a national initiative designed to reduce poverty by improving rural accessibility. The programme identifies communities most affected by poverty and prioritises investments that connect isolated communities to essential services and economic opportunities.
Rather than measuring success purely through engineering outputs, the initiative focuses on improved access which enables people to reach schools, healthcare facilities and markets more easily. Early implementation has shown that improved connectivity is already changing expectations in rural communities, with residents reporting greater confidence in education and economic prospects.
Abbie Noriega of FIKA (formerly Bridges to Prosperity) reinforced the importance of rural connectivity through evidence-based research. FIKA’s recent longitudinal randomised control trial in Rwanda examined the socioeconomic impact of rural transport infrastructure across nearly 300 villages. The study found that pedestrian bridges delivered an annual economic rate of return alongside measurable improvements in food security, income, school enrolment and wellbeing.
FIKA's efforts demonstrated that relatively small infrastructure investments can serve tens of thousands of people and generate substantial economic and social benefits. However, translating evidence into policy remains a challenge, as rural transport investments are often undervalued compared with urban infrastructure despite their high impact.
Expanding Inclusion in the Transport Workforce
Petra Buchner of Holcim presented the Women on Wheels programme, which addresses both workforce shortages and gender inequality by training women as professional truck drivers. Since its launch, the programme has expanded to 36 countries and has supported close to 1,000 female drivers.
Beyond its social objectives, the initiative has demonstrated measurable operational benefits. Data from multiple countries indicate that female drivers achieve strong safety performance, lower fuel consumption and improved operational efficiency. The programme also includes practical measures such as appropriate facilities, flexible working conditions and targeted training to ensure safety and retention.
Experience from the programme shows that one of the main barriers to workforce inclusion is not capability but awareness highlighting the importance of changing industry mindsets alongside implementing technical solutions.
Using Technology to Influence Safer Behaviour
Luo Huanzhong of Huawei presented an intelligent transport system deployment in Oman that uses artificial intelligence and connected infrastructure to improve road safety. The system combines computer vision, automated licence plate recognition and data analytics to detect unsafe driving behaviours such as distracted driving and seatbelt violations.
The project achieved high detection accuracy and enabled enforcement in areas with limited connectivity through solar-powered monitoring infrastructure.
The project demonstrated how digital technologies can support more consistent enforcement and provide authorities with real-time information to guide safety interventions.
Protecting Young Road Users
The session also featured contributions from IRF Members Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) and YOURS – Youth for Road Safety. Emily Carr and Sana’ Khasawneh presented initiatives focused on protecting young road users through a combination of innovation and policy engagement.
Their work highlighted the disproportionate risks faced by youth on the road and emphasised the importance of integrating young people into road safety decision-making processes. Programmes presented during the session demonstrated how targeted advocacy, education and policy reforms can help create safer mobility environments for younger generations.
A People-Centred Approach to Road Safety
Across the different projects presented, a consistent message emerged: effective mobility systems must be designed around people rather than infrastructure alone.
Improving rural accessibility, strengthening workforce inclusion, applying intelligent technologies and protecting vulnerable users all contribute to safer and more equitable transport systems. When planning, regulation, enforcement and technology are aligned with real travel behaviour, road networks become more effective at reducing risk and supporting economic and social development.
The Circle of Excellence webinar illustrated that people-centred mobility is not a single intervention but a coordinated approach that connects infrastructure, policy and innovation to deliver lasting impact.


Jubilee and Winter Olympics: Anas, the Italian National Road Authority, plays a leading role in major world events

Wherever major international events are taking place that will bring millions of people to travel across the Italian territory, Anas, the Italian National Road Authority managing state roads, is present with its know-how in the construction of important roadworks to strengthen transport links, as well as with its commitment to the national road and motorway network. From modernization works to new infrastructure, the goal is to ensure safety, smooth traffic flow and reduced travel times. These interventions intertwine mobility, development and the image of the country, transforming major events into a decisive test for Italian infrastructure.
Anas recently demonstrated this in two major international events: the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games of Milano-Cortina in the Veneto and Lombardia Regions, in Northern Italy, and the 2025 Jubilee in Rome, the Capital of Italy.
Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games
In the first case, Anas was involved, in a very short time, in 13 strategic projects with a total investment of €1.62 billion. The numbers speak for themselves: 1,250 workers and technicians from various companies, plus related suppliers, 630,000 cubic meters of concrete, 120,000 tons of steel and 1.2 million square meters of paving used.
In particular, in the Veneto Region, in the province of Belluno, the opening to traffic of the Tai and Valle di Cadore bypasses on the State Road 51 Alemagna marked a decisive step forward, in view of the start of the Olympics. Anas has thus achieved a significant milestone in its program to improve mountain roads in the Veneto Dolomites Mountain chain. This tangible commitment had already been launched with the 2021 World Ski Championships, affected by the lengthy authorisation process: more than three years of the seven that elapsed between the start of design and opening to traffic.
The two projects, inaugurated on January 26 at the end of the institutional ceremony and carried out in difficult contexts with the aim of improving the lives of all citizens, represent a total investment of approximately €185 million. Both projectsredesign accessibility to Cadore and Cortina d'Ampezzo towns along the State Road 51Alemagna, which is the main northbound route along the Boite Valley. The two tunnels required the movement of over 350,000 cubic meters of material, most of which was reused in a spirit of sustainability, minimising environmental impact. A total of more than 500 workers, over 30 subcontractors and approximately 150 operational vehicles were involved in the works, with constant technical supervision by Anas.
"With the opening of the Tai and Valle di Cadore bypasses, we are delivering to the Region two of the most important projects carried out by Anas in recent years in a mountainous area. We are no longer talking about construction sites or programs, but about infrastructure serving the country, demonstrating Anas' commitment to a more modern and safe mobility in a complex and constantly evolving mountain environment," said Anas CEO Claudio Andrea Gemme during the inauguration ceremony.
The Tai di Cadore bypass is 1.5 kilometers long and includes a tunnel of approximately 1,000 meters, new junctions and hydraulic works. The project required Anas to directly manage complex reclamation and protection activities for protected plant species, as well as the remodeling of the existing bike path. The total value of the work is approximately €110 million.
The Valle di Cadore bypass extends for 800 meters, 620 meters of which are in a tunnel and eliminates the historic bottleneck caused by the urban crossing of Borgata Costa town, which is regulated by traffic lights. The project significantly improves traffic flow and reduces interference with the town center thanks to new junctions and a roundabout on the east side. During the works, a Bronze Age settlement was discovered, proving that Valle di Cadore is one of the oldest inhabited places in the Dolomites Mountain chain. This discovery required a major reorganisation of the construction site activities. In coordination with the Superintendency, Anas undertook to manage a project to enhance the value of the findings. The total value of the work is approximately €75 million.
The Tai and Valle di Cadore bypasses are part of a program launched before the Olympic event, starting with funding from the 2021 World Ski Championships, which involved the entire axis of State Road 51 with a total investment of €360 million. In addition to the Tai, Valle and San Vito di Cadore bypasses, the program involved almost one hundred interventions. Many of these works are dedicated to mitigating hydrogeological instability in a mountainous context characterised by high geomorphological complexity, which is particularly susceptible to the consequences of ongoing climate change.
In the Lombardia Region too, Anas has contributed to improving local and regional road conditions thanks to the infrastructure works carried out for the Olympic Games. As a matter of fact, in January, ahead of schedule, the new Manzoni Bridge along State Road 36 "del Lago di Como e dello Spluga" was opened to traffic. The bridge, built by Anas alongside the existing one, significantly improves traffic flow between the two banks of the Adda River in the Lecco and Pescate towns along one of the strategic axes between Milano and the Valtellina territory. The conversion of the original structure to three lanes, made possible by the construction of the new bridge, responds to the need to separate urban traffic from long-distance traffic in order to ensure smoother and safer travel. The new infrastructure has a total length of 780 meters with a 10.50-meter-wide road platform. The main bridge over the Adda River, built with a steel deck, consists of four spans with a total length of 366.6 meters. The new bridge also features a 2.50-meter-wide bike path crossing the Adda River to promote soft mobility. The total investment for the new infrastructure amounts to €35.6 million.
Jubilee 2025
Not only sports, but also faith moves people. Welcoming the faithful from all over the world in the best possible way during this historic event, which usually occurs every 25 years in the Italian Capital, is essential. The Vatican has always been the heart of Rome. The history of the Jubilee is therefore closely linked to that of the city. The roads and infrastructure are the first thing tourists see when they arrive in Rome, whether by plane, train, bus or car. For these reasons, in the months leading up to the opening of the Holy Door in Rome, there was a great deal of activity of construction sites and complex infrastructure works.
Anas, in collaboration with the institutions, has been working for over two years to improve rail and road mobility in the capital with the aim of offering more functional areas and spaces to facilitate the movement of pilgrims. Anas has implemented a vast program of interventions: over €411 million was allocated to works in Rome for the Jubilee. In addition, the Ferrovie dello Stato Group, the Italian Railway Company of which Anas is a part, contributed to the completion of various maintenance works in the city of Rome.
Between the end of December 2024 and the beginning of January 2025, Anas renovated Piazza dei Cinquecento in front of the Termini train station and completed the Piazza Pia underpass, near the St. Peter’s Basilica. This was the most iconic work of the Jubilee, not only because of its close proximity to St. Peter's Square, but also because of its engineering commitment. The work on Piazza Pia involved the extension of the Lungotevere in Sassia underpass, with the aim of strengthening the pedestrian axis between Castel Sant'Angelo and St. Peter's Basilica. The road was brought underground through the extension of the existing underpass built as part of the works for the 2000 Jubilee.
The works for the Jubilee take us back to another of the most representative places: in addition to Piazza Pia, the large area adjacent to Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Tiber River and the beginning of Via della Conciliazione, there is also Piazza dei Cinquecento. This square is overlooked by that fine example of modern Italian architecture, Termini train station, with its striking canopy by Italian engineer and architect Pier Luigi Nervi and, on the opposite side, part of the monumental Terme di Diocleziano. Another key feature is a historic crossing such as the bold, metal 19th-century Ponte dell'Industria bridge, which has been dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi since December 2025. Another major work is the contemporary Tor Vergata motorway viaduct, which hosted the Youth Jubilee in August, together with the elevated section of Rome's eastern beltway, which is a major infrastructure project from the 1960s that, with its suspended modernity, has been the background and protagonist of numerous movie productions.
This series of recognisable and visible interventions, some of which have a strong impact, is accompanied by an incalculable and less visible number of road redevelopment works, ranging from extraordinary maintenance of the pavement of the main Roman “consular roads” to that of minor roads and connections. These activities also include the maintenance of green areas, cleaning and verification of the hydraulic functionality of the rainwater drainage network, as well as lighting systems, vertical and horizontal signage and acoustic and dividing barriers, all carried out by Anas to ensure maximum safety and sustainability.
Anas' mission is characterised by constant and immeasurable work. The goal is to create safer and more welcoming roads, which will become Italy's visiting card in a context where mobility is becoming increasingly essential for connecting different people and worlds.





IRF President Talks Data and Digitalisation at 88th ITC - High-level Policy Segment
IRF President Dimitrios Mandalozis is at the 88th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Inland Transport Committee in Geneva to address the High-level Policy Segment on driving innovation in inland transport.
In his intervention, he emphasised that “infrastructure, data and digitalisation must be treated as one,” noting that roads are evolving from static assets into performance-based systems that must operate reliably under climate pressure and rising mobility demand. He highlighted the role of digital tools in extending asset life, improving safety and strengthening resilience.
Drawing on IRF’s global evidence base, including the IRF World Road Statistics, President Dimitrios underscored the importance of harmonised data for benchmarking and informed policymaking. He also outlined IRF’s commitment to practical implementation roadmaps that support countries in planning, designing and managing roads to meet social, environmental and economic objectives.

Excellencies, Ministers, distinguished delegates,
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to UNECE for convening the 88th session of the Inland Transport Committee and for providing a multistakeholder platform to articulate priorities and share innovations.
The International Road Federation, active since 1948 and headquartered in Geneva, works to support countries in delivering road systems that are inclusive, safe, green and efficient.
In today’s context, infrastructure, data and digitalisation must be treated as one. Roads are no longer static assets. They are performance-based systems that must operate reliably under growing climate risks, rising mobility demand and increasing expectations for transparency and efficiency. Digital tools and data are essential to extending asset life, improving safety outcomes, reducing lifecycle emissions and ensuring resilience.
IRF has contributed to the global evidence base through our World Road Statistics, published annually since 1964. Drawing on national data and aligned with internationally harmonised definitions, WRS now covers more than 200 countries and territories and over 200 indicators across 11 thematic areas. It supports benchmarking, policy evaluation and planning at national and international levels. The IRF WRS Data Warehouse further enhances accessibility through interactive dashboards and analytical tools, enabling decision-makers to translate data into informed action.
Besides data, to support the implementation of the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport, IRF and a coalition of partners have committed to helping countries strengthen how roads are planned, designed, financed and managed to address the social, environmental and economic challenges of the decade ahead. At the core of this commitment is a series of implementation roadmaps that translate the Decade’s objectives into practical guidance for the road sector. These roadmaps will emphasise data-driven decision-making, digital asset management systems, innovation in materials and design, among other key issues.
In parallel, IRF is also active in many international initiatives that advance connected and automated mobility, ensuring that digitalisation and innovation improve road safety and more efficient traffic operations. We work with infrastructure operators, technology providers and research institutions to bridge the gap between research and deployment. These initiatives reinforce the principle that digital transformation must be integrated into infrastructure governance, standards and operational frameworks from the outset.
I would like to conclude by warmly inviting Member States and stakeholders to join us at the IRF Annual Conference 2026 in Geneva, taking place from 16 to 18 November. The Conference is designed as a platform for countries, international organisations and industry leaders to exchange practical experience on how roads can better fulfil sustainability objectives. On the Road with ecopals: Innovation After the IRF 2025 Start-Up Label Win
Interview with Fabian Zitzmann, Managing Partner from ecopals.
Last 4 December, during the IRF 2025 Annual Conference, ecopals was named the winner for IRF Start-Up Label 2025. We caught up with them to talk about their work and how IRF is supporting their efforts to better the mobility and transport sectors.
To begin, could you briefly introduce ecopals?
ecopals develops technologies that reduce the dependence of road construction on fossil raw materials. Asphalt traditionally consists of aggregates and bitumen, a petroleum-based binder whose performance is enhanced through newly produced polymers. Both components are cost-intensive and associated with a significant carbon footprint. This is precisely where ecopals comes in. We process recycled plastics into a high-performance asphalt additive called EcoFlakes. In asphalt mixtures, EcoFlakes replace virgin polymers and simultaneously substitute a share of the bitumen, without compromising quality or durability. The result is longer-lasting roads, lower CO₂ emissions and reduced total lifecycle costs of infrastructure.
Our asphalt technologies were developed in close collaboration with leading German research institutions, including the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology and the University of Kassel. Today, EcoFlakes are used in more than 40 projects across seven countries, ranging from heavily trafficked motorways and logistics hubs to bus stops and municipal roads.
What problem is ecopals addressing?
Road construction is often perceived as a conservative industry, yet it is of critical importance. It shapes the carbon footprint of entire economies, consumes vast quantities of raw materials and is increasingly affected by rising costs. To date, the industry relies on newly produced polymers to enhance pavement performance. This approach is neither environmentally nor geopolitically sustainable. With EcoFlakes, we demonstrate that identical performance can be achieved using recycled plastics. In doing so, we address two challenges at once. We reduce the consumption of fossil resources while giving recycled plastics a new and valuable purpose. At the same time, we extend the service life of roads and lower maintenance and rehabilitation efforts. This makes road construction not only more climate-friendly, but also more economically efficient.
Where do you see ecopals in the coming years? What are you working on at the moment?
Our focus is on international scaling, building on Germany as our domestic market. Sustainability targets and rising cost pressure are not unique to Germany but shape road construction markets worldwide. Across regions, public authorities and private asset owners seek solutions that use materials more efficiently while improving the performance, resilience and service life of infrastructure. In the coming years, we aim to establish EcoFlakes as a globally recognised standard solution for polymer-modified asphalt based on recycled materials.
To achieve this at scale, we have deliberately built capabilities that go beyond a single product or application. While road construction remains our focus, we see significant untapped potential for environmentally friendly and cost-effective materials across a wider range of industries. To systematically unlock this potential, we rely on our in-house software to assess material formulations before physical production and testing. Our cloud-based virtual laboratory predicts rheological, structural-mechanical and physico-chemical properties, enabling data-driven decisions at an earlier stage and significantly shortening development cycles. This capability extends beyond road construction, as core material performance characteristics are decisive in many industrial applications.
What has been the most important lesson learnt from implementing your technology across different countries and project types?
One of the most important lessons has been that performance-based innovation travels better than purely regulatory-driven solutions. While standards, specifications and approval pathways differ significantly from country to country, the core challenges are remarkably similar: rising costs, limited resources and the need for durable infrastructure. Projects in different regions have shown us that once decision-makers see reliable performance data and real-world references, openness to recycled-material solutions increases rapidly. This has reinforced our focus on close collaboration with local partners as the foundation for successful international deployment.
What does IRF offer in terms of supporting and strengthening ecopals’ work?
The IRF represents a network that is unique within the road and infrastructure sector. Decision-making in this industry is strongly relationship-driven. Therefore, progress is often enabled through personal exchange rather than purely formal processes. The IRF brings together precisely those stakeholders, public authorities, operators and industry leaders, who shape infrastructure development globally, in a way that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
For ecopals, this network is highly valuable. Beyond the visibility created by sharing member news within and beyond the Federation, we are particularly looking forward to active exchange, informed feedback and learning from experienced practitioners. At the same time, the reputation of the IRF and the perspectives of its members provide important third-party validation, which supports trust-building and accelerates adoption when entering new markets.

NASA Nepal Submits Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility Recommendations to Major Political Parties Ahead of General Elections
As Nepal stands on the threshold of a national general election, political parties have begun making public their commitments through election manifestos. However, in recent years, many critical public concerns—particularly those related to road safety, sustainable mobility, public health and transport governance—have remained marginalised or inadequately addressed within political agendas.
In response, a broad coalition of civil society actors working directly and indirectly in the fields of automobiles, road safety, sustainable roads and safe transportation has jointly submitted a policy recommendation document to Nepal’s major political parties. The initiative represents the collective voice of a number of organisations, victim families, subject-matter experts, journalists and road safety campaigners, advocating for the rightful inclusion of these issues in national political commitments.
The recommendation paper was led by the Nepal Automobiles’ Association (NASA Nepal) in collaboration with the National Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Mobility–Nepal, NASA Foundation and Swatantrata Abhiyan Nepal. The document was formally submitted to major political parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN–UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). Additionally, the recommendations were presented to other political parties such as the Ujyalo Nepal Party, Progressive Democratic Party (PDPN) and the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal (LSP), on behalf of Nepali experts and professional communities working globally in these sectors.
The submission emphasizes that building a prosperous, civilised and modern Nepal requires strong political commitment to the following priority areas:
- The right to safe and fear-free mobility.
- The right to health and injury prevention.
- Safe, organised, reliable and regular public transport.
- Alignment with relevant United Nations conventions and global road safety commitments.
- Implementation of long-pending laws, regulations and programs.
- Enactment of a comprehensive Road Safety Act.
- Establishment of a Road Safety Council.
- Reforms related to the International Driving Permit (IDP) system.
- Consumer protection and human rights within the transport and mobility sector.
Senior leaders from major political parties received the recommendation document and acknowledged its importance. Among them were Mr. Dev Raj Chaalise, Spokesperson of the Nepali Congress; Mr. D.P. Aryal, Vice-Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Mr. Ram Bahadur Thapa “Badal”, Vice-Chair of CPN–UML. They expressed a shared commitment to incorporate these critical issues into their respective party manifestos, recognising their significance in the construction of a modern, inclusive and sustainable Nepal.

Intertraffic’s editorial team caught up with the IRF’s Senior Advisor Brendan Halleman and Head of Membership & Partnerships Olivia Denzler to discuss the thinking behind the format and content of their thought-provoking sessions and masterclasses.
“Intertraffic has always been a big feature in IRF’s calendar, but perhaps even more so this time around than it has before,” says Olivia. “The IRF team has collectively attended many editions of Intertraffic, but we always look forward to the next one. We’ve got two booths this year, one in Hall 3 and one in Hall 11, and we're hosting several sessions in the Summit programme and within the Road Safety stage that we're particularly looking forward to.”

With this year's line-up, we’re reconnecting with that glorious past. Great Expectations
As an example of what to expect, one such session will focus on the notion of a greener, safer future that brings together climate and safety specialists to discuss shared challenges.

“We are also participating in a number of other sessions, some of which are organized by Intertraffic,” he adds. “We’re doing one in partnership with FIDIC [International Federation of Consulting Engineers], the organization our former Director General Susanna Zammataro is now heading up. This is a multi-level, multi-tiered, engagement with this year's show.
“The panels will be something you're a bit more familiar with in terms of the format,” Brendan continues, “where we bring three or four speakers, with a good background of private and institutional research. We're getting speakers from the City of Amsterdam and Rijkswaterstaat, so we are fully leveraging our host country. The master classes are a slightly different creature in the sense that they are 45 minutes long and instructor-led. What we're trying to do is provide key insights from a learning perspective.”
A Truly Global Perspective
So, from an organisational perspective, what are the IRF aiming to get out of this year’s event? In the ‘olden days’ (which probably ended in the early twenty-teens), a successful event such as an Intertraffic could be measured by the height of the pile of business cards that you and your colleagues had collected – now, Intertraffic asks Brendan Halleman, would it be more a case of feeling as though you have strengthened your position as thought leaders?

Asked about how the organisation will measure this, Olivia notes: “It's scale, but also the people that it manages to bring together. That's also what the IRF does with our huge network and our membership, and the global nature of that membership. Intertraffic is a great place for us to bring all those people together and to have those conversations from a global perspective.”
“In this day and age, with Zoom- and Team-based events, Intertraffic is one of our touch points,” adds Brendan. “Even within our membership, many of our members, arguably most of our membership, will be present in one form or another. There's no better opportunity for us to connect and reconnect with them, present our programmes, discuss our shared agenda and learn about their innovations. It’s an educational event for us as well.”
Transformational Times
Intertraffic Amsterdam 2026 coincides with something of a transformational period for the IRF. The organisation is in the throes of rolling out IRF’s Vision 2030 strategy, which serves as a roadmap and a call to action for the global road community. It challenges the sector to see road systems not simply as physical assets, but a platform for equity, resilience and shared progress.

In doing so we will help them better understand the positioning of the IRF as a platform at the service of the sector. It gives us the opportunity to be that kind of conduit, as well as bringing those conversations about successes and challenges together. It’s great to be able to talk about it, because there’s something that everyone can take from those conversations.”

IRF Director General Participates in GRIS 2026
New Delhi, India | 5–6 February - International Road Federation (IRF) Director General Gonzalo Alcaraz participated in the Global Road Infratech Summit and Expo (GRIS 2026), organised by the IRF India Chapter under the theme “Vision Zero India: Integrating Safety, Sustainability and Technology in Infra.”
GRIS 2026 convened policymakers, industry leaders and technical experts to examine how infrastructure systems can simultaneously advance road safety, environmental sustainability and technological innovation. It focused on practical approaches to achieving Vision Zero objectives while supporting India’s transition toward low-carbon, climate-resilient transport infrastructure.
During the event, DG Alcaraz chaired a technical session titled “Sustainable Infratech for Transformative Change in India: Vision Zero for Safety and Carbon-Free Developments,” where discussions centred on integrating safety standards, sustainable design and emerging technologies into infrastructure planning and delivery. He also joined a panel on “Policy to Practice: Enabling Vision Zero through Sustainable Infrastructure and Smart Mobility,” addressing the role of governance frameworks and industry collaboration in translating policy commitments into operational results.
The summit programme covered a wide range of priorities aligned with IRF’s mission, including smart infrastructure governance, innovations in road and pavement engineering, resilient construction practices, asset management and sustainable materials.
